Bungalow To House Conversion – Loughton

This project in Loughton was completed in 2017, this 1950’s bungalow had hardly been touched since it was built. Concept took on this project right from the design stage and managed to get planning permission to transform this tiny 2 bed bungalow into a 4 double bedroom 2000 square foot house.

The whole structure was taken down to ceiling level as it was extended 4m on the back so the whole rear of the house was demolished, every internal wall, most of the front was demolished as part of the design the garage was also cut back to the line of the house to allow for a cobble drive which meant a lot of excavating and construction of retaining walls. The Loughton house went up a whole storey which meant a ridge lift of over 3m.

The plan was to keep this looking old from outside mock Tudor style using air dried oak for the open porch and oak framed box bay, but super modern inside but still using the same oak for the open stairs with structural laminate glass balustrades, and to make them more of a feature by having LED lighting on a PIR sensor routed into the underside of the treads that simultaneously light up as you enter the front door.

At the rear of the property to fit with the open plan of the house we installed over 6m aluminium bifold doors with integral blinds with flush freshold so the 1200×1200 polished concrete look tiles could continue out onto the patio area to bring the outside in.

Concept also had a big part of the finishing of the project, there’s was a lot of feature lighting with back lit LED to bathroom panels, kitchen surround, and various parts of the bespoke furniture and also included all the entertainment system with flush ceiling speakers throughout property.

Overall this is our favourite project so far and look out in 2019 as there’s already plans to transform this once 2 bed bungalow into a 6 double bed by converting the lofts space with a side dormer over the stairwell into a further 2 beds and bathroom inc glazed gable ends, and out trademark glazed dormer cheeks at the front and rear.

Not only was the quote competitive, but they explained the process really clearly and came up with the most creative suggestions as to what we could do with the space and provided us with the best plans for our needs.
